Jenn Shaw

Studio Owner/Director

Jenn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and also a Masters in Accounting.  She resides in Big Lake where she lives with her husband and five children. She took over ownership of Starz in 2015 and has implemented changes to ensure the studio continues to grow and that her students also prosper in their dance careers.

Mia Shaw

Assistant Director, Competition & Recreational Instructor, Little Cirque & Dance Cirque Instructor

Mia started dancing at Starz Dance Studio at the age five. In 2012, she began assisting and by 2014 had begun her career as an instructor. Mia has continued her dance education by take several throughout the state, including pole and aerial silk. Mia attended the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) where she majored in Communications, Media, and Rhetoric while receiving an emphasis in Dance. She was an active member in the University’s Dance Ensemble, performing in six shows and taught and displayed her own choreography in five of those shows. She was an active member of UMM’s POM Squared and held the position of Captain from 2016 to 2018,. Mia attend the annual American College Dance Association (ACDA) conference. There she took several classes from dancers/instructors coming from all over the country. She also performed in several adjudicated pieced at ACDA and in 2018 choreographer her own piece to be presented and adjudicated. Mia has receive several awards for her choreography, including “Best in Show.” Mia currently resides in Plymouth, Minnesota and works at Renovation Systems as a Client Service Specialist. In her spare time she enjoys trying new foods, seeing new places, and relaxing with friends.

Aundria Howard

Competition & Recreational Instructor, Little Cirque & Dance Cirque Instructor

Aundria started danced at the of three and was a student at Starz for 15 years. She continued dancing at the University of Minnesota, Morris where she is currently pursuing her degree in Biology. At Morris, she participated in both Dance Ensemble and POM Squad. During her time at Morris, she also attended the American College Dance Association conference on three separate occasions where she had the opportunity to take classes in ballet, tap, jazz, African, improv, hip hop, and a variety of ballroom styles. In addition to taking classes, she also performed in both adjudicated and non-adjudicated pieces during the conference. Aundria enjoys learning and teaching tap the most and some of experience is co-choreographing and perform in a tap piece at the Twin Cities Tap Festival. During college, Aundria taught at Footnotes Studio of Dance. She has also taught summer classes at Starz since 2015, and  most recently taught teen classes during the 2019-2020 dance season. This year Aundria be teaching Father-Daughter!

Morgan McAlpin

Competition & Recreational Instructor, Little Cirque & Dance Cirque Instructor, Social Media Coordinator

Morgan was gymnast for many years before starting dance in 2012. She started her dance career at Tempo Dance Studio where she trained in tap, ballet, lyrical, and jazz. Morgan attended the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) where she majored in Communications, Media, and Rhetoric with an emphasis in Dance. Morgan was an active member of UMM”s Dance Ensemble performing in seven shows and choregraphed multiple pieces in five of those shows. She was a member of the Dance Ensemble board for two of those years and served Treasure and Co-Chair. Morgan was also a member of UMM’s POM Squad. In 2018 and 2019, Morgan participated in the American College Dance Association conference where she performed and choreographed danced to be adjudicated. She was able to take classes from several instructors from all over the country in various styles. From 2018-2020, Morgan was an instructor at Footnotes Studio of Dance in Morris. There she taught several classes of different age and abilities, as well as implementing an acrobatic dance program. Morgan currently resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota. In her spare time, Morgan enjoys spending time with friends, reading books, and watching Netflix.

Kristen Shaw

Competition & Recreational Instructor

Kristen started dancing at Starz Dance Studio when she was 4 years old. She continued dancing at Starz for until she went to college at the University of Minnesota- Morris where she graduated with her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Dance Studies.

She continued dancing by participating in Dance Ensemble as co-chair and was part of the POM Squad. Kristen was able to choreograph many dance pieces at UMM in a variety of styles, with her favorite style being Contemporary. She had the opportunity to co-choreograph and participate in the Twin Cities Tap Festival and was also a part of the featured presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in which she performed a 15-minute dance piece about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kristen currently resides in Big Lake, MN and is a 5th Grade Teacher in Isanti. In her spare time, she loves going on walks with her dog, Stella.

Dani Domka

Competition & Recreation Instructor

Dani started dancing at Starz Dance Studio when she was 3 years old. She continued dancing at Starz for 15 years until she went to college at the University of Minnesota- Morris where she graduated with her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Dance Studies. In Morris, she continued dancing by participating in Dance Ensemble and as a captain of the POM Squad. Dani was able to choreograph many dance pieces at UMM in a variety of styles, with her favorite style being Contemporary. While in college, Dani also had the opportunity to co-choreograph and participate in the Twin Cities Tap Festival and was also a part of the featured presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in which she performed a 15-minute dance piece about the COVID-19 pandemic. Dani currently resides in Big Lake, MN and is a First Grade Teacher at Fair Oaks Elementary School. In her spare time, she loves going on walks and spending time with her family and dog Diesel.

 

Amber Shaw

Student Teacher

Amber has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She is currently on our top competitive team. Her favorite styles of dance are musical theater and tap. She has been assisting/teaching dance since 2019. She has choreographed a total of 9 solos for herself and others, 6 group dances, and co-choreographed 4 duets. Amber has won many awards for these solos and duets including judges awards, PAC attacks, in10se dancer awards, top overall placement awards, and many scholarships. In 2018 she danced at the outback bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida and this November she will be dancing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Amber was selected to be a member of the Turn It Up National Dance Team in 2020 and selected for an in10se dancer award in 2019 and 2021 and was invited to dance in the opening number for nationals in Chicago. Amber has taken master classes from Noelle Marsh, Ade Obayomi, Nan Giordano, Emily Brown, Shelby Davis, Ricky Lam, Todd Flanagan, Marinda Davis, Tristen Sanborn, Matthew Shaffer, Michelle Loucadoux- Fraser, Tracie Stanfield, Charleigh France, Eddy Kovac, and Misty Rascon Smith. Over this last summer Amber entered and placed in the Big Lake talent show and co-choreographed the production dance for Valleyfair. Amber is going into her freshman year at MNCA. She is in many honors classes and is on the A- Honor Roll. Outside of dance Amber enjoys spending time with friends, going to caribou, and watching Netflix.

Sedona Maag

Student Teacher

Sedona began dancing at age 4 and started at Starz Dance Studio at 5. She is currently on our 4th competitive team and competes two dances with our top competition team. Her favorite style to perform is tap and enjoys choreographing some of her solos for competition. She has also choreographed some of the dances that were performed at valley fair. She started assisting in 2019. Outside of dance she enjoys spending time with friends and family along with volunteering as a coach for Darby’s Dancers, a non-profit organization that teaches kids with disabilities to dance

Isabella Richter

Assistant

 Bella has been dancing at Starz for 12 years. Some of her hobbies include reading, swimming, and painting, even though she believes she is not very good at it. And of course she spends a lot of her free time dancing. Bella also regularly volunteers with a program called Special Olympics, where she is a swim coach for people with special needs
